Fishing for brown trout, sea trout and salmon in the tranquil surroundings of East Lothian

Season 2023 Opening Day

On Saturday March 18th East Lothian Angling Association will be holding a ceremony to mark the opening of the fishing season on the Tyne. In this traditional ritual the water will be blessed by a minister then an offering of whisky will be poured into the water for the health of the river and the fish.
Meet at Burns Well car park on the B6368 Bolton Road. The ceremony will start at around 12 o’clock midday.
If you’d like to fish on the day, you will need a permit, which can be bought on-line from Fishing Around the Forth www.fishforth.org/shop/ or from the retail outlets listed on this website, but if you’ve never fly fished before and are curious about the sport, there will be experienced anglers around who will be happy to answer your questions.
The season starts 15th March and continues through to 31st October. The Tyne holds a healthy population of brown trout and sea trout, with the occasional salmon turning up from time to time.
