2024 Season Opening Day Ceremony

On Saturday March 16th East Lothian Angling Association (ELAA) will be holding a ceremony to mark the opening of the fishing season on the Tyne. In this traditional ritual, the water will be blessed by a minister then an offering of whisky will be poured into the water for the health of the river and the fish.

The event is open to anyone interested in the river, thinking of taking up angling or interested to learn more on what the association is doing to improve and maintain the long term health of the river and its immediate environment.

Permits to fish for U18s are free and these will be available on the day, along with the chance to try fly casting and a demonstration on river sampling where you can see what bugs live in the river.

If you would like to come along please meet at the Burns Well Monument, car park on the B6368 Bolton Road for 11:30 where members of the Angling Association will guide groups down to the river. There is room for approx. 4-5 cars at the monument with some off road parking available further on the B6368 on the left side of the road.
